Ascom Network Testing Selected by TIM Brasil to Provide Wireless Network Benchmarking Platform

RESTON, Va. --(Business Wire)--

Ascom Network Testing today announced that TIM Brasil, the Brazilian subsidiary of Telecom Italia (News - Alert) Mobile, has selected its TEMS™ Symphony all-in-one mobile network benchmarking platform as the baseline for a quality-driven initiative aimed at ensuring that TIM Brazil's network quality of service is the country's premier offering.

TIM Brasil chose TEMS Symphony for its performance, reliability and for its dual-mode capabilities, which enable simultaneous testing of 2G and 3G services both active on Brazilian GSM and WCDMA mobile networks. The selection was made by TIM Brasil's Quality Assurance Department, which has as its charter the continuous maintenance and improvement of the TIM Brasil network to assure that the quality of service they deliver is second-to-none in the nation.

The TEMS Symphony order complements a broad range of solutions used by TIM Brasil from the TEMS portfolio. TIM Brazil also makes extensive use of Ascom (News - Alert) Network Testing's flagship drive testing solution, TEMS™Investigation. Additionally, TIM Brasil also measures network quality of service throughout the network ifecycle using TEMS™ Pocket, a handheld network testing tool that delivers quality of service measurements from the smartphone users' perspective.

Since Ascom's portfolio architecture ensures that customers using multiple solutions can integrate and evaluate all collected data within a single view and platform, the TEMS products work in a seamless configuration. Data collected from the TEMS Investigation drive testing and TEMS Pocket walk testing is automatically uploaded to TEMS Discovery, Ascom's premier post-processing solution. This process automation significantly reduces the high cost of manually collecting and uploading RF network test data.

TIM Brasil achieves significant cost savings for indoor benchmarking of data and voice services using automated collection and data processing features in TEMS Pocket. Since the TEMS Pocket units can use a "master/slave" configuration, TIM Brazil can send a single engineer to pinpoint and map a location, which is uploaded to TEMS Discovery - automatically merging location data for TEMS Pocket units - eliminating the need for this to be done manually in the field, one engineer at time. In this way, one RF engineer can test and benchmark all Brazilian mobile networks in a single test by simply carrying four TEMS Pocket units, each equipped with the SIM card of a different operator for 2G or 3G testing.

"The TEMS Symphony systems provided a great value to our organization by enabling us to test more frequently, with greater accuracy, a much lower cost basis," said Fernando Renz, Service Quality Assurance Manager for TIM Brasil. "Our first tests of the system enabled us to increase our drive test quantity by a factor of ten, and we look forward to the continued success of the MTP 4 platform to validate the superior quality of the TIM Brazil network from the subscriber's point of view."

"We are very pleased to continue to enhance TIM Brasil's TEMS platform to enable a full range of efficient, automated test systems," said Arnt Arvik, Vice President Americas, Ascom Network Testing. "We are dedicated to ensure that TIM Brasil meets its objective of top network quality of service in Brazil," Arvik said.
