Nokia debuts new Asha 310 smartphone [Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates)]

(Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DUBAI Nokia on Tuesday announced the launch of the new Asha 310 smartphone, the Finnish phone maker's first handset that combines Wi-Fi and dual-SIM capabilities.

A product must adjust its value to the user… as a long as a brand is trusted, the user will buy it," D. Shivakumar, senior vice-president of sales for India, the Middle East and Africa at Nokia, said at a roundtable of select journalists in Dubai.

"The [Series 40 Asha Touch] user interface is fantastic, and we want to continue to build on it." The device is the latest in the Asha series, popularly known for its affordability despite being packed with features consumers would want in a smartphone. It features a three-inch scratchproof touchscreen, 2MP camera and comes with a 4GB microSD card, which is expandable up to 32GB.

A key feature of the Asha 310 is its built-in Easy Swap Dual SIM technology, in which users can assign and store up to five SIM card profiles. Its hot-swap feature also allows replacing the secondary SIM card through a side door without switching off the phone.

It also comes pre-loaded with the Nokia Xpress Browser, giving fast and fluid Internet experience that supports thousands of apps. Other pre-loaded popular apps include Nokia Maps, Facebook and Twitter, with over 125,000 more available for download from the Nokia Store. It also comes with 40 free games from Electronic Arts.

"Nothing is left out on chance… everything needed [for such a device] is in place," said Calin Turcanu, Nokia's head of mobile phones in the Imea region.

"The Nokia Asha 310 further strengthens Nokia's portfolio of Asha devices. Nokia's Asha range now comprises 15 models which succeed in bringing smartphone features… at competitive price points," Neil Shah, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics, said.

The Nokia Asha 310 will be available in Asia, India, Middle East, Africa and Brazil stores this first quarter, and is expected to be retailed below Dh400.
