Inter Group Selects Verimatrix to Secure Expanded TuVes Direct-to-Home Service and Transition to Next-Generation Network

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/26/14 -- Andina Link 2014 -- Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced Inter, the largest cable operator in Venezuela, has chosen to partner with Verimatrix for two strategic initiatives as it expands its reach and competitive presence across Latin America. With its controlling stake in TuVes HD, Inter has invested in the expansion of the company's wholesale services platform for satellite TV distribution, which is secured by the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for DVB. Inter has also selected VCAS to secure its DVB-C network and its transition to broadcast-hybrid service delivery.

Inter, as part of Corporacion Telemic C.A., offers cable television, broadband internet and voice telephony services. The company develops optical fiber technology and offers more than 70 channels worldwide, including a variety of programs catering to different audience segments. It currently has a network of more than 4,000 kilometers of fiber optics and a presence in over 100 cities and more than 1.9 million households. The company recently acquired shareholder control of the TuVes HD, which operates in Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela, to reach new geographic areas with a competitive pay-TV alternative for consumers across Latin America.

TuVes' latest service, operating as a Head End In The Sky (HITS), is both a complementary service for cable operators to reach areas that can only receive a satellite signal and a valuable wholesale platform for smaller operators to quickly become competitive. "The inherent flexibility built into the VCAS security system not only enables us to secure premium services on our system today, but also supports a cost-efficient upgrade path towards more modern cardless and IP-centric security. We are thrilled with how easy it has been to work with Verimatrix," said Konrad Burchardt, CEO, TuVes.

"We have an aggressive strategy to rollout our next-generation video services based on combining cable and IP networks that will enable us to offer more compelling services to our subscribers," said Eduardo Stigol, CEO, Inter. "We wanted to partner with Verimatrix because they are able to provide advanced security solutions for multiple networks with a built-in migration path as both Inter and TuVes continue to upgrade out networks and add new multi-screen revenue models." The cardless VCAS system is replacing Inter's legacy security platform during its network build out with a "cap and grow" strategy for a seamless transition to more advanced and flexible services, which will include over-the-top (OTT) video delivery. The multi-network VCAS platform enables both operators to combine standards-based and proven DVB technology for broadcast (one-way) networks, while supporting future extension to IP centric network topologies from a single security authority.

"The deployments at Inter and TuVes represent the wide spectrum of pay-TV initiatives happening in Latin America, and we are thrilled to be working with these two progressive operators," said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. "This partnership is a great example of how we are continuing to develop our revenue security solutions that align the evolving needs of operators so they can meet their business objectives with reduced capital and operational expenditures." This partnership was forged by Globetek Media LLC, a privately owned consulting firm specializing in developing business opportunities for our clients with a focus in digital video processing, digital rights management, content delivery networks, security, and content aggregation solutions, for the CATV, telco, and mobile industries. Globetek is a channel partner for Verimatrix focusing in the Latin American region.

Panatel, a leading pan-regional provider of products, services, support and training for the construction and maintenance of TV, broadband and telephony via cable systems, is the reseller for the Verimatrix VCAS solutions being deployed at Inter and TuVes. Panatel offers counseling services for choosing technology, operations, delivery methods, designs, systems specification, inventory management and logistical support. They also offer a division dedicated to the structuring of project financing, specialized in Latin America, with a tailored solution for each country.
