Friday, Oct. 17 * 8 a.m. -- Campbell's Jump for the Cure Horse Show will take place at the Westoba Agricultural Centre of Excellence in the Keystone Centre until 5 p.m. daily. This is a fundraiser for breast cancer and has set a goal of raising $5,000. Each entry is asked to raise at least $30 and there will be many draws for fundraising items sold. There are more than 100 horses coming from all over Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario. Free admission.

* 9:30 a.m. -- Brandon Farmer's Marketis open inside The Town Centre until 4 p.m. every Friday. Local products include produce, baking, canning, jams and jellies, honey, perogies, noodles, crafts and much more.

* 7:30 p.m. -- A special event at the Evans Theatre features "Wheat City: 1930s: A Prairie Town In The Era Of The Great Depression," at 7:30 p.m. This film portrays the experience of Brandonites and their institutional leaders in an era of local, national and international crisis wrought by the circumstances of the Great Depression. Tom Mitchell, producer and writer, and Craig Cesmystruk, director, will be in attendance and will do a question-and-answer session after the show. * Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art -- An eclectic mix of paintings and prints, including works from international artists who flourished in the 1700s and 1800s, will be on display for a limited time. The Dr. Viola Lobodowsky Art Collection contains 19 pieces with an appraised value of more than $100,000, donated to Brandon University over the past 20 years by Dr. Lobodowsky, a retired Toronto dentist and native of Sandy Lake. The exhibit will be on display until Saturday.

* The Royal Canadian Artillery Museum at CFB Shilo -- Come and see our First World War exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of the First World War as well as the 100th anniversary of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Our Gun Park is open year-round with 28 guns and vehicles on display with interpretive panels. Dress for the weather as it is an outdoor display. Winter hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is charged at the door. * The Daly House Museum -- Original home of Brandon's first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly, which was built in 1882 and is the only period museum in western Manitoba. Ordinary citizens of Brandon who were heroes at home during the First World War are commemorated in the exhibit, "Every Citizen a Soldier." Hours: Monday to Saturday 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. For info call 204-727-1722.

* 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum -- Come see a vast collection of historical military items at 1116 Victoria Ave. Open Tuesdays 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Call 204-717-4579 for other times. Free admission.

* The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum -- Hours are 1 p.m.-4 p.m, seven days a week. The museum is Canada's only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of the history of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Check out our newly unveiled RCAF Second World War Memorial, a black granite wall approximately 300 feet in length containing the names of more than 19,000 fatalities, with a larger-than-life bronze statue representing the fallen.

* The Brandon General Museum and Archives -- On the ground floor of the old Manitoba Telephone building at 19 Ninth St. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. On display is a new exhibit showcasing Manitoba Telecom Services' history.

* The Tommy McLeod Curve Gallery -- Is located in the John E. Robbins Library at Brandon University. Hours are Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m.-11 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m.-5 p.m. On display is "Brandon College and the Great War" until Dec. 31. This is the untold stories of the men and women from Brandon College who took part in the First World War.

* The Arts West Travelling Gallery -- The travelling gallery will be at the Carberry Library until Oct. 25.

* Oct. 20 -- The Brandon Chamber Players hosts Jazz at the Lake of the Lake featuring Greg Gatien, saxophone; John Barton, bass; Eric Platz, drums and Zach Harmon, percussion with guest pianist and composer John Harmon. * Oct. 25 -- Spruce Woods Provincial Park is hosting Murder in the Sands -- Guided Hike. A Halloween Murder Mystery from 1-3 p.m. at the Spirt Sands Trailhead. There has been a murder in the park and the park interpreters need your help! One of our endangered northern prairie skinks was found deceased along the Spirit Sands trail. Detectives of all ages are invited to help solve the murder of Stewie the Skink by finding clues along the trail. Be sure to wear proper hiking shoes for this three-km hike.
