Brazil : Oi setting up VoIP app for mobile phones [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oi president Bayard Gontijo declared that the operator is working on a project to develop a softphone, a mobile application that will integrate fixed and mobile access via the mobile broadband network.

Oi is a Brazilian telecommunications operator. He stated during the Futurecom IT event in Sao Paulo that the project is part of Oi's strategic plan to boost VoIP access.

The project is similar to GVT's Freedom app, introduced in March this year that has already had 52,000 downloads for iOS and Android devices. The idea is that via the mobile phone and the application, calls to fixed numbers can be routed to the mobile phone.

The product is for residential use, not just corporate. Technologically, the project is undergoing final adjustments and there is still no launch date.
