Italtel to Reveal How Service Providers Can Regain Revenue From OTT Players at MWC 2015

BARCELONA, Spain, February 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

Technologies available have already been deployed for leading Communication Service Providers in EMEA

Italtel, a leading company in Next Generation Networks, Value Added Services and global IP-IP communication, will be highlighting a number of solutions aimed at helping service providers reclaim the market from OTT players at this year's Mobile World Congress.

In order to survive the changing telecommunications landscape, characterized by traffic explosion, an increase in the number of devices and reduction in the profitability of telecommunication services, Italtel suggests network transformation and decommissioning to move to an all-IP architecture.

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), Software Defined Networking (SDN), WebRTC and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) are the technologies Italtel will bring to this year's Mobile World Congress to achieve this move towards all-IP networks.

"Global IP traffic has increased more than fivefold in the past five years and will increase threefold over the next five years," said Italtel's CEOStefano Pileri. "Consequently, in order to sustain this evolution, networks must be transformed in the direction of simplification, virtualization and automation. Networkswill have a minimal architecture that we may call "ABC" based onAccess and Backbone levels while intelligence will be moved into the Cloud.IP protocol will be used in all network segments and for all communication services, including voice, video and messaging."

The AllIP transformation will bring benefits, including the capability to provide new services and features like High Definition video, increased network coverage and lower OPEX. Several operators, including four incumbent European CSPs, have previously commissioned Italtel for network upgrades.

Italtel will also be able to discuss solutions for service providers' enterprise customers, which Italtel says telcos must pay special attention to in order to generate additional revenue streams.

"Service providers must propose value-added services to their business customers and avoid offering a pure connectivity package with decreasing margins," continued Pileri. "A good opportunity is in the area ofReal Time Video and Web Communication. OurCollaboration at Work  solution is an integrated architecture that allows organizations to achieve a unified and ergonomic user experience providing the best interoperability between multi-vendor communication technologies."

At Italtel's booth (Hall2, 2J2) two examples of solutions for a cloud service and for on-premises deployment will be shown. Specifically, the cloud service is a managed and hosted unified communications and collaboration service that service providers can automatically deliver to multiple autonomous business customers. The "Enterprise Telephony as a service" demo shows how a service provider can offer a truly "one click" cloud service, where all the steps needed to create the service are conveniently orchestrated according to the NFV paradigm. The communication and collaboration applications are hosted in the cloud and delivered over a VPN connection.

On the other side, the "Collaboration at Work" demo is an integrated architecture that allows Cisco and Microsoft devices to coexist seamlessly, with Presence status and other UC settings automatically transferred across the different UC environments. The solution includes an advanced provisioning system to guarantee the whole management from a single pane of glass. The unified and ergonomic user experience between multi-vendor communication technologies is achieved thanks to the interoperability guaranteed by Italtel's Session Border Controller (SBC), NetMatch-S. The solution is enriched by WebRTC services, provided by Italtel's product Embrace. Embrace allows a company to make and receive audio and video calls and to take advantage of a wide set of collaboration and conference services directly from the user browser, without having to install a software client.
