Miami, Florida-based Next Communications said that it has established a strategic alliance with ATSI Comunicaciones, one of the seven telephone companies fully licensed to operate in Mexico.

Next Communications (NEXT) provides wholesale international voice and data services for wired and wireless telecommunications carriers located throughout the world.

The agreement calls on NEXT to offers clients a comprehensive suite of telephony services and to lower the wholesale rates. The company can charge clients for long distance calls terminated in Mexico, according to NEXT officials.

This alliance has allowed Arik Meimoun, CEO and chairman at NEXT, and Mexican industrialist Gustavo Jimenez Pons to acquire ownership interests in ATSI. According to the companies, this new relationship is expected to benefit NEXT in the U.S. and ATSI in Mexico.

ATSI Comunicaciones operates under a 30-year government issued telecommunications license similar to the license owned by AT&T's (News - Alert) subsidiary in Mexico. ATSI owns a minority interest of a subsidiary in the company.

“ATSI will benefit from Meimoun’s vast experience in telecommunications, said Pons, adding that company will benefit from NEXT's delivery to ATSI of the approximately 300 million minutes per month of international long distance traffic NEXT currently transmits to Mexico.

“NEXT will benefit by gaining direct interconnection into Mexico through ATSI and its relationship with Telmex (News - Alert), with the result that NEXT will be able to offer its substantial client base lower rates to Mexico,” said Meimoun.

Meimoun also said that, as one of the terms of the strategic alliance, NEXT will make its proprietary switchless technology available to ATSI. Industry experts believe that this technology, which NEXT developed in collaboration with Cisco Systems, will become the industry’s technology standard in the near future.
