Telefonica Mexico Introduces 'Movistar Voice to Text' Powered By Spinvox

Mobile operator Telefonica Mexico this week launched its new ‘Movistar Voice to Text’ service.

This service will convert the voicemail messages received by the Telefonica Mexico mobile subscribers into text, which will be further forwarded to them as an SMS or an e-mail. In Mexico’s telecom market, Telefonica Mexico said it is the first mobile operator to offer such a service to its subscribers.

The ‘Movistar Voice to Text’ service will voice-recognize the audio content sent via the voicemail message to a subscriber, and will further convert it into text and send an SMS to the subscriber. It will save the subscriber from dialing to the voicemail box to hear all the voice messages.

The feature might come in handy in emergency conditions when a critical message must be delivered to a subscriber in shortest possible period of time. After reading the message, the subscriber will be able to return the call, send a reply immediately via SMS or to keep the message at a single click, simplifying communications when compared with traditional voicemail.

Telefonica Mexico has entered a global deal with SpinVox (News - Alert), a company that offers Voice-to-Content services to power up the new service. SpinVox is a well-known speech-to-text service provider and offers the service in six languages which are Spanish, Portuguese, English, French, German and Italian.

Through an intelligently developed “Voice Message Conversion System” or “VMCS” SpinVox’s voice-to-text conversion service is able to accurately translate the different phonetic variants of Spanish spoken in Mexico and in Latin America.

VMCS relies upon an ongoing live-learning process, through which new words and different pronunciations are continually added to its database. The system is a huge corpus of spoken language, and is equipped with a database of over two billion words and phrases, which could have been otherwise done through audio training in a period of 72 years of audio training.

The Voice Message Conversion System of SpinVox integrates latest speech technologies with a live-learning language process so that best conversion results are achieved. One more innovative feature of the system is that to maintain greater levels of accuracy and correctness of the converted text, it promptly asks for help from a human agent, who guide it to the parts of the messages that need their assistance, if it is not able to complete the conversion because words or phrases are indistinct.

Keeping in view the security concerns of the subscribers, SpinVox has also incorporated complete anonymity containing no user data into the text messages sent by VMCS. Well-researched security protocols which are implemented globally by major banking services, have been integrated into the system, to guarantee users’ confidentiality.

This September, Telefonica joined hands with China Unicom Ltd., a telecom operator from China to form a strategic alliance and cooperate with each other. While in the month of May this year SpinVox had launched its first voice to text application for the iPhone called QuickVoice.
