In late December, 2010, a new rugged 'verykool' R80 handset was shipped from InfoSonics Corporation to its first customer in India. A customer in China had already received this rugged survival handset three months ago.
InfoSonics (News - Alert) is a provider of wireless handsets and related products to carriers and distributors in Latin America and Asia Pacific, which distributes products supplied by OEMs and also designs, develops, manufactures, markets, sells its own proprietary line of products under the 'verykool' and other private label brands.
'verykool' is a fresh product line of mobile phones that addresses the everyday needs of the mobile phone user and the R80 is an inaugural product that was developed entirely in-house by the verykool Research and Development center in Beijing, China.
The delivery of the R80 to a new customer in Asia signifies the company's desire to expand beyond the Latin American market. Its rugged features, sturdy design and capabilities make it the ideal survival phone.
In a press release, Joseph Ram, InfoSonics' president and CEO, stated that the second shipment of the rugged R80 handset to a major customer in India could be a precursor of things to come. While agreeing that it was still too early to tell, Ram believed that R80 could be a significant product for them as it was helping to open doors to new markets.
Ram further added, “The R80 is a full-featured, ruggedized, multimedia phone with a great feel and industrial design that we believe will be appealing to customers throughout Asia Pacific, as well as in our core Latin American market. Finally, the R80 represents the first in a new series of products that we hope to introduce in 2011."
Headquarters in San Diego, Calif., Infosonics' Latin America headquarters and logistical and operational facility are located in Miami, Florida. It has sales offices and facilities throughout Latin America, including Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Chile, and Colombia.
In a related news release, InfoSonics Corporation announced the launch of its new rugged 'verykool' R80 handset and shipment to its first customer in Asia Pacific.
