Entropic (News - Alert), the maker of semiconductor solutions designed for the connected home, announced today that its silicon and software have been selected for adoption by DIRECTV PanAmericana.

The solution chosen is the Channel Stacking Switch and Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA)-based silicon, which DIRECTV PanAmericana will incorporate into its 2013 lineup.

“In an effort to continue bringing the latest innovations to DIRECTV customers in Latin America, I am pleased to announce that DIRECTV PanAmericana will be adopting Entropic's Channel Stacking Switch and MoCA technology into its advanced product lineup," said Rudy Ramirez, senior director, Product Development, DIRECTV PanAmericana. “Since our initial launch in 1996 as the first digital TV service provider in Latin America and throughout the years, DIRECTV has led the market continuously bringing the latest innovations to its customers.”

“2013 will be another landmark year,” he said.

Entropic’s VP of marketing and connectivity group, Al Servati, voiced his own company’s excitement; “We are pleased to further our collaborative relationship with DIRECTV as they continue to innovate and deliver industry-leading technologies and services to their subscribers globally.”

Viewership and revenue from Pay-TV subscribers in Latin America is growing exponentially, set to reach 73.2 million in 2016. This marks a 68-percent rise from 2010’s numbers, and is part of the reason DIRECTV has chosen Entropic – to ready the company for this striking growth in the next couple of years.

“Entropic’s CSS (News - Alert) and MoCA technology will allow for simpler home network installations and home topology that will allow us to provide our customers with the best entertainment experience in the region,” said Ramirez.

Servati added that, “By incorporating our CSS and MoCA technologies in the DIRECTV PaAmericana network, the company can offer a differentiated TV viewing experience by extending HD multimedia content to every TV in the home.”

Entropic’s Channel Stacking Switch single-cable wire infrastructure and low noise block converters enhanced with multi-switches fit in nicely with DIRECTV’s whole-home entertainment solution focus.

The silicon and software will be deployed throughout a host of DIRECTV products, including its HD-DVR receiver, and its DIRECTV Ethernet-to-Coax Adapters (DECA).

By selecting Entropic, DIRECTV PanAmericana has expanded its offerings for its Latin American customers at the right time – just as the region’s market for the technology is on the upswing.
