Movilnet, a mobile provider in Venezuela, has deployed Amdocs Billing software to support its new, nationwide, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network.

Movilnet is a digital wireless communications provider in Venezuela. It is part of CANTV holding, which claims to be the largest communications company in the country in fixed line, digital wireless, broadband and dial-up Internet access, and other services provided nationwide.

In the current market scenario, mobile communications services have been the fastest growing segment of the Latin American telecommunications industry and presents great opportunities to carriers and vendors. Operators need to start reinventing their position in the market to assure customer retention and higher returns per subscriber.

Following the trend, Movilnet says that its mission is to become the preferred wireless provider as a result of its excellent customer service, innovation and network reliance.

With the current deployment, Movilnet has extended its use of Amdocs (News - Alert) Billing to enable the introduction of postpaid GSM voice and data offerings and roaming. For years Amdocs Billing software has supported postpaid services based on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) standards at Movilnet.

"By launching GSM operations, Movilnet can capture a larger market share, as local mobile usage in LATAM continues to rise," said Michael Couture, head of Global Marketing at Amdocs. "Amdocs' customers, such as Movilnet, can extend their existing Amdocs systems to quickly introduce and monetize new networks. They can do this cost-efficiently and at a low risk to cope with competition and changes in the market."

Nicholas Solorzano, vice president of System Operations at Movilnet said that they wanted to enhance their customers' experiences by offering GSM services before the holiday season, and were looking for a vendor that can deliver in an aggressive timeline.

He said "Amdocs delivered in record time and on budget. Most importantly, the deployment had no impact on daily operations and was transparent to our customers. Our 10-year relationship with Amdocs has resulted in long-term cost of ownership advantages and continues to deliver value to our customers."

Amdocs on the other hand, is a global company with revenue of $3.16 billion in fiscal year 2008, and has more than 18,000 employees and serves customers in more than 50 countries around the world.

Amdocs says that its provides solutions that deliver customer experience excellence, combining the software, services and expertise to help its customers execute their strategies and achieve service, operational and financial excellence.
